First Rehearsals for New Album

June 13, 2009

I've had my first rehearsals last week with producer/bassist Paul Bryan and drummer, Jay Bellerose. With all the help from fans, I am poised to start recording my third album. We will cut 12-14 songs for my new album starting in a couple weeks.

In July I'll hit the road back East and work on some additional fundraising to help with post-production costs. Because of the generosity and faith of many people,
we're in good shape to accomplish this record and we're all systems go for our start date to record with Ryan Freeland, engineering for us at his studio in Los Angeles on June 29th.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://amycorreiamusic.blogspot.com/2009/06/06-o-lord.html' title='All Systems Go! This is an incredible beginning and in about one month we are well on our way of reaching the goal of $35,000.00. Why does a record cost this much to make? Can't people make them in their basements? Yes, some can. Maybe someday I will. Especially if I ever have a house with a basement. In the meantime, this is my third album and I'm hiring a producer because I can't do it alone. I'm hiring some world-class musicians and engineers and artists to make this the best album I can. Most of the money is for musicians, producer/arranger and studio time. Then there's post production/mastering, artwork, manufacturing and distribution. My goal is to have a first run out this fall or by the end of this year for people who pre-order the album.

I leave tomorrow to head to Los Angeles, and I'm flying high from all your support and encouragment.

Thank you for playing a part in my new album and giving me an opportunity to make the record I believe I can make. I can't thank you enough. The CBS crew filmed me going over bridges, through a cemetery, up and down a road between two lakes, down Nelson's Grove where my grandmother used to live. Then up and down the street where I grew up. It was a blast and nothing a little Ben Gay won't cure. The story on Jill Sobule and me as people who are making albums with the help of their fans will likely air June 7th, 9am eastern.

I'm four weeks into this drive and have about five weeks left til I record June 28th.
A lot of things are coming together. My fans and friends are getting behind this and giving it power. It's kind of amazing to me that this is really working. I don't know where it all will GO. I know I'm making an album for all of you who care about it. And that's far enough for now.

FRED CORREIA (MY DAD) SOON TO BE TV IDOL

I'm back from a two-week tour, opening for singer/songwriter Marc Cohn. We went from Fall River, MA to NYC to Philly and Annapolis, MD. I took a bunch of orders for the new album along the way and was really excited to be out there playing again. I mostly played songs that will be on the new album. Now I'm home and working on a few dates (shows) before I get on a plane and head to Los Angeles in about two weeks. A couple days ago I received the "deal memo" (producer agreement) between myself and Paul Bryan: Send lawyers, guns and money! I'm also nailing down the real number of what I need to pull this project off. From soup to nuts. My goal is to do an initial run of CDS so I'm including costs of production as well as "manufacturing and distribution," which ultimately means the cost of everything up to envelopes and stamps.

Last week CBS Sunday Morning News filmed a live show at the Rockwood Music Hall in NYC as part of a feature they are doing on "fan funded" albums. On Monday, Anthony Mason, the host, will come to Lakeville, MA (where I grew up) to interview me and my dad and show me riding around on "the bike." I'm really excited to show off my Dad's barbershop because my dad has had his shop for about 50 years. It's an interesting place. My dad is helping me with this new album project by allowing me the use of his shop as a "clearing house" of sorts. Checks are being sent there because I'm on the road and moving around. If you haven't heard a thank you from me about your check that was sent to my Dad's shop in the last week or so, it's because they haven't been opened so we can open some on the air. I will write to you Tuesday to let you know I received your check and thank you. And thank you to everyone who's sending payments online via Paypal. If you don't have a paypal account, you can still go there and pay securely with a credit card. I'm tired, but I'm so grateful to everyone for helping me make this album. I'm looking forward to diving into the music again soon.

Choose Your Part. Moved. Grateful. Okay, even "psyched". I have to say thank you to all my fans who are responding with generosity kindness and enthusiasm. Your votes of confidence mean a lot to me and this project. The kind words, the pre-orders, the bandying about of credit cards. I have gone from feeling slightly isolated and alone to surrounded by friends/supporters and well-wishers. Thank you!
And now for a gratuitious celebrity photo: I am posting this picture of Gavin Lurssen and Jay Bellerose at the Grammy's. This is what I'm talking about. My team, Our Team, at the Grammy's this year just collecting Grammy's and hanging out with rock 'n' roll legends and really funny adorable actresses from New York. Gavin sent this photo to me the other day and I think he said it's okay to show him off...I think he did. Didn't he?! These guys are "so cool they could store a side of beef in [them] for a week...(zaphod beeblebrux). Twenty-five years later I'm still peeling back the layers of what Emerson wrote and trying to understand what it means to be "self-reliant," to trust one's own mind. That's where to find majesty. He introduced me to drummer Jay Bellerose and the three of us sat down and played together in Los Angeles in Jay's living room. Paul and I are planning to capture the music we started that day for my next record. Ryan Freeland, who has worked with Paul on the last two Aimee Mann albums, will record and mix for us. Paul and I will head to NYC after getting the performances of us as a trio to add some orchestral elements. Gavin Lurssen, who mastered my first album “Carnival Love," will put on the final sonic touches. I saw the movie, The Wrestler, a few nights ago and I can't stop thinking about it.

THE SILENCE OF THE RAM

Approached with a sense of purpose and love, any occupation could save a person from ruin. It's not what you do, but how you do it. You could be an excellent mom, goat herder or pro-wrestler. It's how you choose to pour yourself into your own life (whatever it may be) that has redemptive powers.

To pursue an authentic life, to endure, and resist capitulating to whatever is your version of the deli counter of mediocrity (where Randy the Ram reluctantly worked), that is to triumph. The Ram keeps charging in spite of all his obstacles, failings and flaws. He can't win back his daughter, he is alone and getting old. The girl he digs can't save him from a heart attack. He chooses to go out swinging: When he gets up on the ropes that one last time, before he has the final heart attack (as I see it) and the film goes to black, Randy the Ram falls and triumphs simultaneously. He sacrifices himself on the altar of the ring in one final flip to mediocrity. The Ram is a genuine hero in that moment to me, not a super hero with a cape, but a flawed mortal in lime green lycra tights, flying in the face of death and defeat. He chose to do what he loved.
